Abstract
One effort to improve the characteristics of carbon steel material is being made because the use of material for the steel industry, ship construction and building of water in a sea water environment is likely to increase. Among the most important characteristics that must be possessed of steel is its resistance to corrosion in addition to the mechanical characteristics. This study aims to determine the effect of the temperature of the heating process (heat traetment) coating the Nickel (Ni) on carbon steel is on the mechanical properties. Coating method used is electroplatting. Restricted to the parameters of the mechanical properties of hardness measured using Vickers test. Heating process (heat traetment) performed at 600oC temperature variation, 723oC, and 800oC. The results showed that coating the plate hardness after the heat treatment increases compared to the plate without coating, but hardness tend to decrease with increasing heat treatment temperature.
